Welcome to our website

Whittlesey Dog Training Society was first registered as a training club with the Kennel Club in 1951.  Mr Bill Bedford was the founder chairman a position he held ever since as well as being one of the chief instructors.

Established in Whittlesey at the Old Drill Hall.  As membership and popularity grew, a new hall was found in Peterborough.  Our Club has had many changes of halls due to ever increasing numbers or, in some instances childrens parties have taken priority, dogs (however well trained) were not always welcome.  St Pauls was a venue for over 18 years, although our current home can be found at Stafford Hall (Westwood).  Finding halls with enough room for our ever growing classes has become more and more difficult over the years.

Primarily we provide ‘Dog Obedience’ training in a 3 staged process but we also offer a ‘Ringcraft’ class.

WILLIAM BEDFORD (06/09/22 – 12/06/10)

FOUNDER CHAIRMAN OF WHITTLESEY DOG TRAINING SOCIETY

It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the death of Bill who lost his fight for life on 12 June; a life that was devoted to his dogs.

In 1950 Bill, with a few friends, formed the Whittlesey Dog Training Society, he was the Founder Chairman, a position he held until 2008 when he became our President.

Bill also worked his Alsatians, as they were then, in Obedience up to Class C and also judged to Open C.  He had many stories to tell of the 1960-70s when Obedience was a lot more laid back than it is today.  He was very proud of Bouncer, his best Obedience dog.  Bill was once doing out of sight stays in C at Granby Halls when a motorbike came straight through the middle of the ring, to his credit Bouncer remained where he was left.

Bill was also a Founder Member of the GSD (Alsatian) Club of the United Kingdom.  He ensured that all shows included Obedience classes during the 16 years he was Secretary.  He was delighted when the Club gained Championship status, which unfortunately they lost in later years.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with his daughter, Lorraine, at this sad time.

Jennifer and all members of Whittlesey Dog Training Society.
